Tamara Meinecke

Music, Violin & Ensemble Teacher

Tamara Meinecke, our full-time music teacher, comes to our school from the professional orchestra world. She received her Master of Music degree with honors from Yale University School of Music and then joined the Nashville Symphony Orchestra as a violinist. Most recently she played in the Louisville Orchestra in the first violin section from 1997-2014. Throughout her orchestra career, Tamara taught private violin lessons and performed in smaller venues as a soloist and with her chamber music groups. She also participated in the traditional music scene (and still does) as a dancer, singer, and fiddle player in twice-yearly stays at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina. She began teaching group violin classes at WSL in the 2010-2011 school year, after participating in Parent-Child classes for two years with her son. Now she works with first through eighth grades as our general music teacher, violin teacher, and Recorder Consort conductor. Tamara and her husband John Knecht have two sons at the Waldorf School of Louisville.
